HEAD2HEAD is formed by bass player Graham Robb and drummer Bill Kyle, back together again since they virtually invented the Scottish jazz/rock scene back in the seventies with their seminal group HEAD.

HEAD was a highly popular band, well known for its unique style and the wide appeal of its music. It was often described as “one of the best introductions to modern jazz you could hope for.”

Now, HEAD2HEAD continues the development, exclusively featuring all original, new music written by media and theatre composer, Graham Robb, who wrote much of the music for HEAD.

HEAD2HEAD is a six-piece band with a flexible line-up selected from an all-star “pool” of Scotland’s most accomplished and well-known names plus some exciting, up-and-coming new talent. Besides Graham & Bill, HEAD2HEAD musicians have included guitarists Nigel Clark, Malcolm Macfarlane, Jed Brockie, Ben Macdonald & Stuart Gorman, trumpet players Colin Steele, Gregor Clark & Allan Wylie, saxophone players John Burgess, Paul Towndrow, Konrad Wiszniewski & Gordon McNeil, and many others…

Most recently the "powerhouse" front line has been Doug Tiplady, Stewart Forbes, and James Marr, and the rhythm section has been complimented by Mike Nisbet.

When not working with HEAD2HEAD, Graham & Bill are both very active on the music scene. Graham is a freelance bassist, composer and jazz & music educator with two textbooks on improvisation, “Starting Out” & “Putting it Together” publisher by Faber Music, and theatre shows “Fame Game” & “Eternal Xmas” published by NextGen Publications.

Meanwhile Bill has been playing with top jazz names in New York, London, and now Edinburgh, owning and running the hugely popular and successful seven-night-a-week jazz venue “The JAZZBAR” in Chamber Street; live music in a relaxed and cool vibe.

HEAD2HEAD is no trip down memory lane; Graham & Bill did something new back then, and they’re doing something new NOW; new music & new musicians - there are studio & live recordings on the songs page. Enjoy!
